Strawberry Shortcake


 
Don't wait for strawberry season to make this deliciously simple recipe- try whatever fruits are in season.  You can even mix them up- Peach Blackberry Blueberry Shortcake- Yum! 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
To make the shortcakes (makes 4), mix together until just combined:
 
1 c. Bisquick
1/3 c. milk
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. orange extract
1 tsp. orange zest
 
Drop onto baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes, until they just start to brown.
 
Prepare the fruit- gently mix together:
 
1 pint fresh sliced strawberries, 1/4 c. sugar and 2 T. water.
 
To serve, crumble shortcakes into individual serving bowls, top with fruit and juice, top with fresh whipped cream.
